BELMONT'S BECCA PIZZI HOPES TO MAKE HISTORY AGAIN

Becca Pizzi made history in 2016 as the first female American to compete and win the World Marathon Challenge, seven marathons on seven continents in seven days. She instantly became a celebrity in her Belmont hometown, an inspiration to many young girls like her own 10-year-old daughter, Taylor, that you can do anything you put your mind to.

“I’m ready to make America proud. I was given the opportunity to run this race again and feel so fortunate to be doing the two things that I love. I love to run and I love to travel,” she said.

Pizzi will once again make history as the first person to compete a second time in the World Marathon Challenge. No one else has ever done it twice. She departs on Jan. 27 for her journey which begins in Novo, Antarctica on Jan. 30 and continues to Cape Town, South Africa; Perth, Australia; Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates; Lisbon, Portugal; Cartagena, Columbia and ends in Miami, Florida on Feb. 5. The race has grown since 2015 from 15 runners to a total of 55 men and women from around the world, including Boston Marathon Race Director Dave McGillivray.

Her anticipation

Pizzi is most excited about her family being at the finish line, especially her daughter who will be running the last 100 yards with her in Miami, Florida.

“I’m so looking forward to seeing her face at the finish line and crossing the finish line with her,” she said.

Pizzi said this time around she feels fit. Two years ago she felt fast. She participated in nine marathons in 2017, two in different countries, which she thinks has helped prepare her for this challenge. She made the decision to participate in the World Marathon again just a few weeks ago.
