DAVE MCGILLIVRAY READIES THE CELEBRITY MILE ROAD RACE

Boston Marathon race director Dave McGillivray has been busy organizing the Celebrity Mile, a star-studded road race that will take place in North Andover on July 16. Among those pounding the pavement will be Boston Police Commissioner Bill Evans, former Patriots lineman Max Lane , globe-trotting marathoner Becca Pizzi of Belmont; Boston Marathon bombing survivors Jeff BaumanAdrianne Haslet-Davis, and Heather Abbott; 1968 Boston Marathon winner Amby Burfoot; WHDH-TV Channel 7 news reporter Steve Cooper; WBZ-TV meteorologist Eric Fisher; Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh’s chief of staff Dan Koh; two-time Boston Marathon winner Geoff Smith; and triathlon champ Karen Smyers.

The Celebrity Mile is part of the Runner’s World Classic, a series of races that will take place at Merrimack College over the weekend of July 15-17.

The last time McGillivray staged a Celebrity Mile was back in 1984, to promote the opening of his running store in Medford. Participants that day included former Patriots Ron Burton and Jim NanceDerek Sanderson and Ken Hodge of the Boston Bruins; Olympic figure skater Tina Noyes; former Celtics Henry Finkel and Steve Kuberski; news anchor Paula Zahn; sportscaster Bob Lobel; radio host Robin Young; and sportscaster Bob Gamere.
