The world’s oldest annual marathon has been held annually since 1897, but last year it was canceled for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Boston Marathon is traditionally held the third Monday of April, but this year’s race has been pushed back and is now tentatively scheduled for October 11. The Boston Athletic Association says the date is contingent on road races being allowed as part of the reopening plan in the northeast U.S. state of Massachusetts.
