Markelle Taylor finished the 2019 Boston Marathon in 3 hours, 3 minutes, 52 seconds, blistering fast for a 46-year-old man who did all of his training on a quarter-mile track of asphalt, gravel and dirt with six 90-degree turns. Weeks before, on March 2, 2019, Taylor was released on parole from San Quentin State Prison in California after serving 17 years and 7 months after being found guilty of second-degree murder.

North Andover’s Dave McGillivray, who not only runs the Boston Marathon, but he “runs” the entire operation as the race director, had another banner day.
He always works the race until around 3:30 p.m. and then heads out to Hopkinton with several friends and family and runs the race, his 47th straight start and finish.

BOSTON — Renowned race director and endurance athlete Dave McGillivray finished his 47th consecutive B.A.A. Boston Marathon at 9:45pm after having open-heart, triple bypass surgery only six months ago.
McGillivray was joined by 15 other running friends, including eight who ran the 2018 World Marathon Challenge with him.

Dave McGillivray has been associated with the Boston Marathon for three quarters of his life, from an 18-year-old participant to his current position as race director. The latter is a role that, for the last 32 years, has required him to run the race hours after the winners, such as Lawrence Cherono and Worknesh Degefa, break the tape on Boylston Street.
